Under the Spotlight In the Zone Book 4 edition by Kate Willoughby Literature Fiction eBooks
I loved Joe from the start of the book. He's a hard working hockey player who is faced with the realization that he is on the downside of his career. He knows he has a few years left at best and is doing all he can to hang on.Christine is an actress who is waiting for her big break. She contacts Joe for a favor and sparks fly.
There was everything to love about this book. Joe has a lot on his mind, his career, his roommate and what he is going to do in the future and...he's in love with Christine, who has just landed a part on a tv show that has left him less than happy.
I found myself torn between the two of them. Like that friend who loves them both and can see both sides of the issue. I loved how they were both strong people. They love each other but they aren't willing to give on what is important to them. And in the end, they find a way to compromise and find that happily ever after.
One of my favorite things about this book is the epilogue. I won't leave a spoiler but that really made the book for me. Great story, one I'd recommend to anyone.

Under the Spotlight In the Zone Book 4 edition by Kate Willoughby Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
If you enjoy hockey and romance novels, read Kate Willoughby's In the Zone series. It's a fun read with well-developed characters and an unpredictable plot. Definitely on the steamy side (i.e. explicit), which at times distracted from the plot (for me). (A PG-13 version of the story would be just as engaging!)
I've read each book in the series and look forward to the next installment! Kate Willoughby is a gifted story-teller; I'll try anything she writes.
I am a fan of Willoughby's In the Zone series. This book is my least favorite of the series but it is still a good read. Joe and Christine are strong, likable characters. Their story does not adhere completely to a formula, much like the other books in this series. The only issue I had was Joe's shock over certain aspects of Christine's career. I wasn't surprised, so he wouldn't have been either. However it wasn't enough to ruin the book for me.
This was a wonderfully written, rich story. The author has a way of really getting to the heart of her characters with authentic dialogue, and believable passions. I enjoyed the way she paired Joe and Christine with careers of fame and spotlight, but as one career begins to fade, the other one takes off and it seems there is always a balancing act. Their struggles were real, and I loved taking this journey with them, even to shedding a tear or two toward the end.
I love the world the author built for the Barracudas, and I look forward to following her for years to come.
I really loved this book! Joe is a pro hockey player who is getting up in age and fears his career is fizzling to an end. Christine is an actress whose star is quickly rising. These two were genuinely nice, down to earth people so it was easy to cheer them on as a couple. I also loved the humor in the book between the main couple and Joe's teammates.
While this is part of the "In The Zone" series it can be read as a stand alone title without confusion. I'd still recommend reading the previous titles because they're great books!
I found Under the Spotlight months ago when it was still waiting to be released. I just bookmarked it rather then preorder to read a sample. The sample convinced me and I thought it was a nice read. Not perfect and noting to write home about.
If anything I like Christine the heroine better than Joe the hero and that's not saying much. The only thing a really liked the most was Christine's story arc of being in a cable show. She gets her big acting break in a big cable series that sounds Game of Thrones like and she's Dagnarys. It's a version of 1001 Nights. Hearing about her up and coming career and the makings of her show kept me going in this book. Joe was kind of boring. It could have been his name that made him so boring. With a name like Joe he needed personality in spades to carry a novel and he carried nothing.
The romance between Christine and Joe was lukewarm good. Not the boiling hot you want in a romance novel couple.
***** 3.5 Stars******
I am a huge fan of Kate Willoughby. I love this series, and so far I have been invested in each of her heroes/heroines. This book is no different. I like the Joes of the world. The silent, hard working, decent human beings. Being a woman, I appreciate the Christines - a talented, hard working, aspiring woman with the guts to go after her dreams. I liked the premise of the book. Joe came across as an average ordinary guy who had the talent to make it to the big leagues. His priorities were to be the best hockey player he could, win the Stanley Cup, mentor younger players, and find someone who could love him for himself. Christine had dreams. She was a successful stage actress, but she longed to advance to the small screen and become a household name. To do that, she had to push her boundaries and her own comfort zones. These boundaries are what create the conflict in this book.
I enjoyed the book.... so why the 3.5? For me, this book fell a little flat. The plot seemed to crawl, and I had mixed feelings with the way things ended. While I will not divulge exact plot lines, I will say that I do not think the main characters compromised enough. I get a woman wanting to achieve her dreams, but when a spouse or serious boyfriend is involved, I think she should think really hard about what she is doing, what she wants, where she wants to go, and how she is going to get there. I am not saying that she should give up her dreams, but I think she should include her significant other in the process. To me, Christine hid too many things and did not give Joe enough of an opportunity to be a voice in the process. I also didn't buy the Joe jealousy plot. Yes I could understand Joe's feelings, especially where he was in his career, but that did not translate into jealousy over where Christine was in her career. Ultimately, the book had a wonderful happily ever after, but there were too many small issues in my opinion for me to give this a four.
I loved Joe from the start of the book. He's a hard working hockey player who is faced with the realization that he is on the downside of his career. He knows he has a few years left at best and is doing all he can to hang on.
